Renters Insurance – Don’t Leave Home Without It
A common misconception with so many renters is that they really don’t need any kind of insurance policy because they rent and do not own their home or apartment. The truth though is that you should have coverage for many different reasons. Here’s a look at why. Of course, when you rent a home, condo or apartment, you do not have to be concerned over any physical damage to the structure from a storm, fire or other disaster. The owner would have insurance coverage to take care of that. But what about your contents? And what about liability insurance in case you are responsible for some other form of injuries or damage that you caused? This is where a renter’s insurance policy is invaluable. A renter’s policy will cover all of your personal possessions in the event of a fire, theft, or other natural disaster. With replacement cost coverage they will be covered for today’s actual costs to replace them. This is compared to an actual cash value policy that would only pay out a depreciated value on any claim. Another common misconception is that renter’s insurance coverage is costly. Many people believe that this type of policy is just like a homeowner’s policy and costs quite a bit every year. Again, the facts are completely different. You can get a renters policy of only a couple hundred dollars per year, less in some areas. That is nowhere near the cost for a similar house insurance policy. If you are a renter you should have an insurance policy to protect you and your possessions. They are very affordable and offer peace of mind when you need it most.
